Ao Nid Pier

Ao Nid Pier, Koh Mak

Ao Nid Pier, Koh Mak's main ferry pier, is located on the southeastern coast of the island in the village of Baan Ao Nid. It is Koh Mak's largest and busiest pier, handling the majority of ferry arrivals and departures to and from the island.

Unlike Koh Mak's tourist beaches, which are concentrated on the western and northwestern coasts, Baan Ao Nid is the island's main administrative and residential village (a working community rather than a resort area). The bay itself is calm and shallow, and while the surroundings are pleasant, it is not a swimming beach.

The village around the pier is the civic centre of the island, housing the public health clinic, the island school, a temple, a police station, and the government building, which is also home to the island's only ATM. Several local restaurants and a minimart are within easy walking distance of the pier.

There is no dedicated terminal building or air-conditioned waiting lounge at the pier, and there is no public WiFi.

Ferries from Ao Nid Pier connect Koh Mak to Koh Kood, Koh Chang, and the mainland at Laem Sok, with onward bus connections to Bangkok, Pattaya, and Rayong. The main operators serving the pier are Boonsiri High Speed Ferry and Seudamgo, both of which can be booked through Viaferry.

Getting to Ao Nid Pier

Most of Koh Mak's resorts are on the western coast, around Ao Kao and Ao Suan Yai beaches. From these areas, the drive to Ao Nid Pier takes around 10 to 20 minutes by vehicle.

The most straightforward option is a resort transfer. Many resorts on the island will arrange to drop guests at the pier at the end of their stay (confirm this with your accommodation when you book, as it is often included or available for a small fee).

Shared songthaews (open-sided pickup truck taxis) are the island's informal public transport. They meet arriving ferries at the pier and can take you anywhere on the island. The same songthaews can be arrange to bring you back to the pier when you are ready to depart.

Motorbike rental is widely available on Koh Mak, which gives you the flexibility to reach the pier independently at your own pace.
