Getting to Amsterdam Port

By car, IJmuiden is reached via the A9 and A22 motorways or the N202 from the west of Amsterdam. The terminal is at Sluisplein. A fenced car park with camera surveillance is next to it and can be booked before departure; it closes once the ship leaves and reopens when the ship returns.

By public transport, bus 382 runs from Amsterdam Sloterdijk and bus 385 from Haarlem Centraal to IJmuiden. There is no direct train: travel by train to Beverwijk and continue by local bus. A coach also links the terminal with De Ruijterkade Oost near Amsterdam Central Station.

Check-in for passengers and vehicles closes 45 minutes before departure, so arrive well before then, and check your booking confirmation for your check-in time. See the Amsterdam to Newcastle route for sailing details.

Arriving at Amsterdam Port

Drivers leave Sluisplein in IJmuiden towards Amsterdam and the motorway network. Without a car, a coach runs from the terminal to De Ruijterkade Oost near Amsterdam Central Station, or you can take a local bus to Beverwijk and continue by train. Taxis are also available.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is the nearest airport, about 25 km from the terminal. By road it takes about 25 to 30 minutes, so a taxi or car is the fastest way there. If you are arriving from Newcastle, see the Newcastle to Amsterdam route.
