Koh Lanta is a long island in the south of Krabi province, on Thailand's Andaman coast. It is quieter and larger than nearby Koh Phi Phi, with a slower pace that suits families, couples and longer beach stays. A string of beaches runs down the west coast, from the livelier Klong Dao and Long Beach in the north to the quieter bays of Klong Nin and Kantiang further south, while Lanta Old Town, a fishing port on the east coast, has wooden stilt houses and seafood restaurants. Boat trips run to snorkelling and dive sites such as Koh Rok and Hin Daeng, and many visitors use the island as a relaxed base after Phuket or Phi Phi.
Koh Lanta has no airport, so most visitors arrive by boat or by road from the mainland. Ferries and speedboats connect the island with Koh Phi Phi, Phuket, Krabi and Railay, and tickets for these routes can be booked on Viaferry.
