Koh Phi Phi Don, the busy main island of the Phi Phi group, connects with Koh Lanta, a quieter and larger island in the south of Krabi province, by ferry and speedboat.
Boats leave from Tonsai Pier, in the car-free village at the centre of Phi Phi Don, and arrive at Sala Dan Pier, in the harbour village on Koh Lanta's northern tip. The ferry takes about 1 hour and the speedboat about 35 minutes. Travellers staying at Laem Tong Beach, on the northeast of Phi Phi, can take a speedboat from the beach with a quick change of boat at Tonsai Pier. Phi Phi to Koh Lanta Ferry
Frequency: ferries and speedboats run daily from around November to April. From around May to October, there are far fewer departures, and some services run only once a day or stop completely. Check the timetable above for current departure times.

Speedboat, Laem Tong Beach to Sala Dan Pier: about 1 hour 35 minutes in total, including a 15-minute connection and a change of speedboat at Tonsai Pier
Leaving from Laem Tong Beach: there is no road between Laem Tong and Tonsai Village. A ticket from Laem Tong includes the first boat to Tonsai Pier. There you change straight away to the speedboat for Koh Lanta, with about 15 minutes between the two boats. You do not need to arrange your own transfer across the island.
Ferry or speedboat:
Ferry: about 1 hour, with more room for luggage and a steadier ride. A practical choice if you are carrying large bags, travelling with young children or prone to seasickness.
Speedboat: about 35 minutes, with fewer seats and less space for luggage. It is the only option from Laem Tong Beach.
On board: both ferries and speedboats have covered seating. Ferries give more space to move around and store bags. On speedboats, life jackets are provided and luggage is stored at the front or back of the boat. Facilities vary by vessel.
Arrival: boats arrive at Sala Dan Pier, a small pier walkway leading into Ban Sala Dan village. Unlike Phi Phi, Koh Lanta has roads: taxis and tuk-tuks wait near the pier to take you to your hotel.
Phi Phi to Koh Lanta transfers
Tonsai Pier, Koh Phi Phi
Tonsai Pier is in the centre of Tonsai Bay on Phi Phi Don, and is the island's main departure point.
Getting there: Tonsai Village has no cars. Most village hotels are a short walk from the pier, through narrow lanes. Plan to carry your own luggage or ask your hotel if staff can help.
From other beaches: Long Beach is about 20 minutes on foot. From beaches without a walking route, take a longtail boat to the pier.
Before you leave: the pier area has ATMs, public toilets and restaurants, so you can get cash and food before boarding.
The pier is crowded when several boats leave close together, especially from November to April. Arrive early to find your boat.
Laem Tong Beach, Koh Phi Phi
Laem Tong Beach is on the north east of Phi Phi Don and can only be reached by boat.
The speedboat picks up passengers directly from the beach, as there is no pier.
Your resort can tell you where and when to wait for the boat.
There are no ATMs at Laem Tong. Because the connection at Tonsai is only about 15 minutes, you will not have time to go to an ATM there. Make sure you have enough cash for a taxi on Koh Lanta before you leave.
Sala Dan Pier, Koh Lanta
Sala Dan Pier is in Ban Sala Dan, the main harbour village on the northern tip of Koh Lanta Yai.
Taxis and tuk-tuks: available at the pier. Local rides usually cost 50 to 200 baht per person, depending on the distance. Agree on the price before you set off.
Hotel shuttle: many resorts offer a pick-up from the pier. Arrange it with your hotel before you travel.
In the village: ATMs, toilets, shaded seating, cafés, convenience stores and seafood restaurants on stilts over the water. Diving centres are also based nearby.
There is no luggage storage at the pier.
