Ao Nang is the main beach resort town in Krabi province, on the Andaman coast of southern Thailand. It has a beachfront strip of hotels, restaurants, shops and tour offices, with limestone cliffs rising behind and across the bay. Ao Nang suits beach holidays, families and travellers who want a base close to Railay and the islands, and it is about 30 minutes by road from Klong Jilad Pier and a short drive from Krabi Town and Krabi Airport.
The main beach, Ao Nang Beach, curves around the bay and has views of the limestone islands offshore. To the west, Nopparat Thara Beach is a longer and quieter stretch of sand within Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park. Railay is just across the bay, and longtail boats make the short crossing from Ao Nang Beach. In the evening, the town has seafood restaurants, bars and a night market.
Ao Nang is also a busy departure point for boats. Speedboats leave from Nopparat Thara Pier, at the western end of the bay, for Koh Phi Phi, Phuket, Koh Lanta and other islands, and longtail boats from Ao Nang Beach run to Railay.

Boats for Ao Nang use Nopparat Thara Pier, at the western end of Nopparat Thara Beach and about 4 km from the main Ao Nang resort area. The pier is small, with a few vendors selling drinks and snacks, a car park and more restaurants along the beach. Taxis and tuk-tuks run between the pier and Ao Nang, so allow time for the transfer and check with your hotel whether it can arrange one.
