Ao Nang, a beach resort town on the Andaman coast of Krabi province, connects with Koh Phi Phi Don, the main inhabited island of the Phi Phi group, by speedboat. Boats leave from Nopparat Thara Beach, at the western end of Ao Nang, and arrive at Tonsai Pier, the island's main jetty in Tonsai Village, in about 1 hour. Speedboats continuing to Laem Tong Beach on the northern tip of Phi Phi Don stop at Tonsai Pier first, adding about 10 minutes. There is no direct ferry from Ao Nang to Phi Phi. The route suits travellers staying in Ao Nang or the surrounding beach areas who want a fast crossing to Phi Phi without having to travel to a pier near Krabi Town.

Tonsai Pier or Laem Tong Beach:
Tonsai Pier is the island's main jetty and arrival point, within walking distance of most hotels, shops and restaurants in Tonsai Village.
Laem Tong Beach is on the northern tip of Phi Phi Don, with a small group of resorts and no road connection to Tonsai Village. The speedboat stops at Tonsai Pier first, then continues to Laem Tong. If you are staying at Laem Tong, book a ticket to Laem Tong rather than to Tonsai Pier.
Vessel type: speedboat only. There is no ferry from Ao Nang to Phi Phi. Speedboats carry a limited number of passengers and bags, and the ride can be bumpy in choppy water, especially from May to October.
Who can travel:
On board: covered seating and life jackets. There is no food or drink service. Luggage is stored at the front or back of the boat. Facilities vary by boat.
Arrival: at Tonsai Pier, a 20 baht island fee is collected in cash on arrival. There are no cars on Phi Phi Don: you walk to your hotel or continue by longtail boat. At Laem Tong Beach, the speedboat drops passengers directly on the beach.

From Ao Nang beach: a short walk or taxi ride along the beachfront road.
From Krabi Airport: by taxi or private transfer. Journey time: 35-60 minutes+
Book ahead, as morning speedboats from Ao Nang can sell out, particularly from November to April.
Tonsai Pier, Koh Phi Phi
Tonsai Pier is in the centre of Tonsai Bay, on Phi Phi Don. It is the island's main pier and the busiest one.
Island fee: a 20 baht fee is collected in cash on arrival, for pier maintenance and cleaning. Have small change ready.
To your hotel: Tonsai Village has no cars. Most hotels are within walking distance, through narrow pedestrian lanes. Staff may help with luggage, but expect to carry some of it yourself.
Other beaches: Long Beach is about 20 minutes on foot. For beaches without a walking route, hire a longtail boat at the pier.
Expect to be met by staff holding signs for hotels and tours when you arrive, especially from November to April.
Laem Tong Beach, Koh Phi Phi
Laem Tong Beach is on the northern tip of Phi Phi Don and can only be reached by boat.
The speedboat stops at Tonsai Pier first, then continues to Laem Tong. Passengers for Tonsai Village disembark at Tonsai Pier; those continuing to Laem Tong stay on board.
The speedboat drops passengers directly on the beach.
The beach has several resorts, restaurants and bars, and is quieter than Tonsai Village, with no clubs or loud parties.
There are no ATMs at Laem Tong. Take out cash in Ao Nang before you leave.
