Railay Beach is a peninsula on the Krabi coast in southern Thailand, surrounded by limestone cliffs and cut off from the mainland by rock and sea. There is no road or path to it, so every visitor arrives by boat, and there are no cars on the peninsula. Railay is known for its beaches, its sheer rock walls and its relaxed pace, and it appeals to couples, families and travellers who want a beach stay that feels removed from Ao Nang.
The peninsula has several beaches within walking distance of each other. Railay West has the long, sandy beach and is the usual choice for swimming and sunsets, while Railay East, where the pier is, is lined with mangroves and has more guesthouses and restaurants. Phra Nang Beach, at the southern end, sits beneath cliffs and has a cave shrine and a well-known cave restaurant, The Grotto. Railay is also one of the main rock climbing destinations in Thailand, with routes for beginners and experienced climbers, and many visitors take a climbing course or a day trip to the nearby islands.
Railay has its own pier on the east side, and boats run between Railay and Koh Phi Phi, Phuket, Koh Lanta and other islands. Longtail boats also run from Ao Nang Beach, which is how many visitors arrive.

Railay Beach Ferry
Boats to Railay use Railay Pier, also called Railay East Pier, on the east side of the peninsula. The pier itself has no seating, and an information centre with toilets is a short way off at the entrance to the walking street. There is no luggage storage, and there are no cars, so you walk from the pier to your resort and carry your own luggage. Railay West is a short walk across the peninsula.
